There were 455 K900s sold in the US last year. For comparison, Bentley sold 1,152 Bentaygas and McLaren sold 1,110 cars in the Land of the Free and Home of the Whopper. Though presumed dead after skipping the 2018 model year, the US will be getting an all new K900 for 2019.
This 2nd generation Grand Amanti will likely make its world debut in the US during late March or early April. Here’s a spy picture of the new interior:
The current interior:
But didn’t the K900 come out just 4 years ago? Nope, the current K9 came out in 2012. We got it in the US as a mascot for all the sports Kia sponsors and to distract everyone from the rising price points across the rest of the lineup. Remember that 10 years ago Kia’s flagship Amanti, the car preparing the US for premium Kia models, was pretty much fully-loaded at under $30,000. Today you can option a $16,000 Kia Soul to that same price point.
A nearly $70,000 car with a Kia badge was a complete failure in sales but an instrumental part in moving Kia from a cost brand to a value brand in the US. We’ll talk more about mainstream branding soon.
The 2nd generation K900 will likely keep its name since Kia has a tendency to introduce a potential new designation on a concept car prior to the production car...even if the two don’t really relate.
Kia GT4 Stinger Concept
(This is likely coming as a sibling to the Hyundai N sportscar that was just confirmed).
Kia Niro Concept
I’m pretty sure the architecture of the new Sephia Supremacy is roughly the same as the old car outside of whatever could be done in order to increase torsional stiffness and an appreciation for kinematics, elastokinematics, or whatever that engineery stuff is you all know about when it comes to cars driving well. I’m just a branding man.
The Tau V8 should continue into 2020, the 3.3t will be the new engine offering, and AWD will become available which should see annual Canadian sales skyrocket from 7 to 37.

I quite like the new gen 2 interior that channels a lot of Mercedes/Infiniti . If they do the 3.3T or V8 with AWD it will be a great used pick 3 years from now.
An example of how cheap these things are:
HFV has no HFV. But somehow has 2 motorcycles

If Kia actually makes a sports car that looks like the GT4 Stinger concept I will have a much more expensive car payment. Crazy how that concept is 4 years old now but they could put it into production and it would look like the future.

I agree, great used car value! Now if only someone would buy one of these cheap used K900s and write up an Oppo Review on what the car is like to live with...

455 retail sales? That’s almost hard to believe for such an old design with hilarious resale. Sales to Korean embassies, dealers, or expats who want the best from the homeland?

Only K900 I’ve ever seen had diplomat plates here in Mexico City

I suspect that’s at least a few sales. It’s just such a weird left field choice, that something else must be behind it.
I have seen several on the road around Seattle, but I see more S600 Maybachs, and that’s saying something.

Hyundai’s most expensive car in Mexico is the stinger or the Sorento... They don’t sell the Cadenza or the K900 or the Hyundai large cars.... It had to be imported by the diplomats... Same stuff with a Lexus ES I see around and a Toyota Avalon. The the Danish Embassy has a 435i xdrive...they don’t sell the xdrive here :(
Diplomats have it all.
But it does point to a discrepancy between what Kia of America wants to become and what Kia de Mexico wants to become...
Then some dealers get very fancy cars imported, talking about SVO range rovers and Audi RS6s. Both EDM.

I was expecting them to drop it, especially now that the Stinger’s out and Genesis is starting to really get going. I’m very surprised that a 2nd gen is coming at all, let alone to the US.

I think here, the fancier ones sell to proud expats, people connected to dealers, or maybe a few oddballs who think the cars are a value. I don’t think these are bad cars per se, but you aren’t really getting an S-class for 65K. I have also seen at least one Equus in livery service, but I don’t know if it entered service when new.
I don’t see many diplomatic cars where I live, but I am always astounded how they seem to be into showing off. Something crooked there.
As you know, private imports in the US are virtually impossible for modern cars.

I must have missed the announcement, but please share any details about this confirmned N sports car from Hyundai:
(This is likely coming as a sibling to the Hyundai N sportscar that was just confirmed).

Reports were everywhere from a BRZ fighter to a Genesis branded Lamborghini level supercar. However, it’s probably something closer to the Z4/Nupra and next Z car using a small displacement mild hybrid engine developed by Hyundai’s N performance brand. It was just confirmed for production but there aren’t any concrete details besides it being a serious performer.
